The Builder

March 24, 2010

I believe it is time that we stop hiding behind the cliche', What would Jesus do?, and take responsibility for our own actions.

Too often we use that question to justify our actions and skirt our responsibility.  If we are going to use this non-Biblical approach to decision making then we need to address some constants in the life of Jesus.

Jesus never did anything that was against the standing law of the Father.  He did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it.  Our question should be, AAre my actions in keeping with the total teaching of the Word of God?@   His decisions did not contradict the word of God.

Jesus considered actions and decisions in light of eternity and not on a short time basis.  Every decision and every action of our Lord was for the purpose of revealing and directing people to eternity with Him.  He sought to bring a better Spiritual life to those with whom He came into contact.  Our question should be, AWhat eternal effect will my decision make?@.

Jesus never sought personal gain nor sought personal acclaim in His actions.  He often requested those receiving His blessings speak to no one of His actions.  Our question should be, AWho will get the glory for the decision I am making?@.

I want to do what Jesus did.  I want to proclaim the Kingdom of God is at hand.  I want to repeat the admonition to repent and turn to God.  That is what Jesus did, that is what Christians are supposed to be doing.

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday as we do what Jesus did, worship the Father.
