September 9, 2009

This is it.  This is the Sunday of the

Tailgate Party and high attendance.  Can we beat last years attendance of 576?  I think we can and we will.  As you invite your friends and as they attend, please be sure to record who they are and where they live.  Get a phone number if possible.  This will allow our

GROW teams to follow up after this special day.

Need a jersey to wear?  I have extra LSU shirts for anyone wishing to wear one...

See you Sunday in your team attire.  Lunch will be provided and there will be no evening services.

WEDNESDAY the 16t,h we will meet in the sanctuary for a presentation from our Ad-hoc committee.  They were tasked last year to come up with ideas on what to do with the property directly behind the educational building.  Come hear their exciting plans and see their presentation.  Ask questions, make comments, get involved as God leads us to the next step.

SEPTEMBER 19th, a Saturday, has been set aside for the canvassing of Bainbridge.  As I have previously stated, members from other churches in our association will be joining with us to go door to door with the Gospel.  Teams will be assigned and folks will head out from our Fellowship Hall.  You need to be here by 8:30 to receive your assignment and join a team.

These are busy times at First Baptist Church and I am proud to be a part of such a great Church.  I look forward to seeing you this Sunday.

AMAZING GRACE MOVIE

A word of thanks to our Audio Visual Committee for your hard work in the showing of the movie in last Sunday night=s worship time. In spite of the late afternoon light that streamed into the beautiful stained glass windows, the great visuals and movie sound were superb. All who viewed this film were impressed. If you were not privileged to see the screening of Amazing Grace, it is available for private in home viewing. Call me at the church office to borrow it.

Most historical movies take some liberties with the facts and Amazing Grace was no exception. Upon further research, I discovered the tune AMAZING GRACE which the lead character sang was an early American tune and was first wed to the text about 1833, some years after MP William Wilberforce sang it in the movie. No worries though. It was still an inspirational movie which emphasized the God-given freedoms of equality and human dignity which we all revere.

CHANCEL CHOIR

Thanks to the Chancel Choir for their hard work and faithfulness in providing special music each week. You serve in a unique way to inspire us to worship the Lord and think about Him. Your skills and talents have grown immensely during our years together. You are a blessing to me and our congregation.

SAINTS ALIVE

Our Senior Adult Choir resumes Monday at 10:30 A.M. in the Choir Room. See you there.

Senior Adult SS Teachers Note:

Due to all the activities of this coming weekend  our AWANA Ministry will not meet this Sunday evening September 13. Well will resume all activities on Sunday September 20.

Who will have the highest percentage of their class enrollment this Sunday morning? I don=t know either. But, I do know that there are some Sunday School teams who are working very hard at their goals for this new year.

The apostle Paul tells us in Philippians  that we should press on toward the goal of the upmost calling. That calling is to reach, teach, minister to each other and to others that God sends to us. God expects His family to grow and in order to do this we, as a church family must intentionally go beyond the boundaries created by culture and society and reach the places where no one else will go. It is going to take all of us working together to accomplish this goal. Lets start this new Sunday School year by doing what God has commanded each of us to do. See you and your unchurched friends Sunday.

High Attendance Game Time

This is the week that we really try to promote Sunday School in the church.  For those who attend Sunday School, we know how important it is, but the goal is to get people who don=t attend to come and see how great it is.  We as a youth group have decided to shoot for 80 students this Sunday, and we can only do it if all of y=all show up and bring a friend.

Look forward to seeing you there and in your favorite team colors.

                  Sunday Night Activities

Because of the Tailgate Party this Sunday, there will be no evening services.  That means that there will once again be no 5th and 6th grade bible study, Shockwave, or SNAC after church.  We will start back next Sunday evening.

           Middle School Prayer Breakfast

We have started back prayer breakfast for the 7th and 8th grade students.  We meet at 7 a.m. on Tuesday mornings at Burger King.  There is a private area for us to meet so that we can have a devotion along with breakfast.  Please join us next Tuesday for this time off fellowship and prayer.

                     See You At The Pole

Sept. 23rd is SYATP for all of America.  We will meet at our schools at 7 a.m. to pray around the pole and we will have a rally that evening.  Please be at your poles that morning to pray for you country, church, community, and school.
