October 21, 2009

A Sunday School class teacher came to me this past week and said, "Pastor, if you have any prospects for our class give them to me. I will see that they are visited this week and encouraged to attend." I did and he took four names for his class.
What is so unusual about this? Well, it is the first time that it has happened here. I know classes are good to visit and check on one another. I also know that everyone is welcome to attend any class they choose. But I also know that our outreach through out Sunday School could improve. Teachers and class members, I encourage you to make and maintain a prospect list for your class. Check with the office periodically to gain names you can add to the list and actively seek to gain new members. The church grows through the Sunday School, and we have the best Sunday School in town!
I believe God is blessing us for our intentional efforts to reach the lost for Jesus Christ here and around the world. This one thing, reaching the lost, is the purpose of the church. Our Sunday School, Discipleship Training, Ministries, fellowships, and all else we do should have this purpose at the core.
Let=s not lose sight of why we are here.
I look forward to seeing you this Sunday.

Small Group Mentors
We are looking at starting a small group ministry around the first of November if we can get the volunteers. Right now it would be during the 7 to 7:45 time slot on Wednesday nights, but that could be adjusted based on availability. We are looking for people to lead discussion groups for both the high school and middle school students. I would do a small bible study and then turn the groups over to you for the discussion time. There would be questions based on the bible study, but this would also be a time to hear the hearts of the students and let them learn from discussion. This is not a time for you to be teachers, but to facilitate discussion amongst the teenagers. If you are interested in being a part of a ministry like this, please let me know ASAP.
In every art beginners must start with models of those who have practiced the same art before them. And it is not only a matter of looking at the drawings, paintings, musical compositions, and poems that have been and are being created; it is a matter of being drawn into the individual work of art, of realizing that it has been made by a real human being, and trying to discover the secret of its creation. ‑Ruth Whitman
Kids learn by seeing the example of those who have been where they are and seen what they are seeing.
