The Builder

 March 3, 2010

Thank you for your prayers while we were on our mission trip to Africa.  Toby Roland and I will be sharing about the trip this Sunday morning.

I also want to thank you for the kind remembrances of me on my birthday.  It was neat to celebrate it on both sides of the world.

The first phase of our new Church Directory is complete.  Thank you to all who were able to participate.  Phase two involves make up days for those who had to reschedule.  Those dates are March 22, 24 and 25.  Tina Wallace is heading up the scheduling of these dates.  Please call her at  246-8250 if you have questions, need to confirm or change a date, or see if an extra sitting is available.  I can=t wait to see the finished project.

We will be filling Buckets of Hope for Haiti this Sunday evening.  We will do this as an act of worship, a sermon in action if you will.  The location for this event will be the Cloud Arena at the Decatur County Ag. Facility on East River Road. Our goal is to fill over three hundred buckets with rice, beans, pasta, sugar, oil and flour.  These staples will feed a family for a week.  The buckets, content, and shipping equal $30.  If you have not already purchased one, please do so Sunday.  I believe the entire cost of this project can, and should, be easily attained.  Remember, Jesus said when we show mercy unto the least of these, we are showing mercy unto Him.

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday.

Paul

BUCKETS OF HOPE FOR HAITI

I have been excited the past 10 days to assist with Mission Committee=s efforts to support the Buckets of Hope campaign to feed the hungry in Haiti. I=ve had to ask myself where this intense desire to help comes from. The answer I find is a reflection of the memories of  wonderful people I met while on a mission trip to Haiti 24 years ago. These hard working people exist on a poverty level that we can=t even imagine. The destruction of their homes and property is a further blow to their day to day existence. They really need our help and Buckets of Hope will meet this need.

We are calling our evening worship service a Pack-n-Praise Worship Service.

Here=s how you can get involved:

1.) Youth through Adults are invited to the Pack-n-Praise at 6:30, this Sunday night. The location will be the Cloud Arena at the Decatur County Ag. Facility on East River Road.

2.) We will gather for a short time of praise & worship.

3.)Those who are able may choose to help pack the 300 buckets. If you can pick up a 1 pound box of spaghetti, then you can help. Packing should only take a few minutes.

4.) We will conclude this time with prayer for each of the families who will be receiving these buckets.

A prize will be given to the Sunday School Class which has the highest percentage of members present at this event. You may even want to wear matching shirts. Coffee, bottled water and soft drinks will be available. Thanks to those families and Sunday School classes who have contributed and to those who will in the future.

Five Love Languages of Children

Dates: March 3-April 28 (Wednesdays)

Time: 7:00 p.m. till 7:45

Each child and adult expresses and receives love best through one of five different communications styles. This truth can work against parents who speak different love languages than their children. However, when properly prepared, moms and dads can use this information to help them meet their children=s deepest emotional needs.

Discover your child=s primary language and learn what you can do to effectively convey unconditional feelings of respect, affection, and commitment that will resonate in your child=s soul.

Attention all pre-school, children and youth workers.  It is time to have new background checks. Please meet in the fellowship hall at 4:30 this Sunday afternoon to complete background check information A notary will be present for your convenience.  All background forms must be completed by May 15, 2010. It is very important to complete the background checks if you plan on working in any of these ministries.

Summer Activities

                             Atlanta Fest

Atlanta Fest is a Christian music festival held at Stone Mountain Park in Atlanta June 16th-19th.  There will be music and speakers throughout this three day event.  More information will come in the next couple of weeks.

                              MissionLab

This year we are returning back to MissionLab for our mission trip.  We will go June 27th-July 3rd.  We are doing it at this time so that we can use our churches VBS material from the week before to work with churches in New Orleans.  This is a great trip and a great ministry, I encourage each student to go.  Sign up is in the youth room.  More information will follow in the next couple of weeks.

                            Spring Break

We know that many of you go away for spring break, but we will be doing youth day trips again this spring break.  We will play paintball again and go tubing down the river.  This will give those who are still in town and opportunity to do stuff together as a youth group.

7th and 8th Grade Prayer Breakfast

We will not have prayer breakfast next week because of those going to Sea Camp.
