The Builder

June 9, 2010

I am taking a few days off prior to attending the Southern Baptist Convention in Orlando, Florida.  My family and I will be returning to worship with you on Sunday, June

20.

First Baptist Church is unashamedly a Southern Baptist Church.  This means that we are an autonomous body of believers that are self governed.  We join in cooperation with like-minded churches to form a convention of churches for the express purpose of sharing the Gospel around the world, of developing disciples, and ministering to the needs of others.

The genius of our convention is the Cooperative Program.  This is a  voluntary means of supporting missionaries at home and around the world.  It also includes theologically educating our ministers, seeking to plant new churches, develop new believers and reaching out to the lost and hurt of our world.  What one church could not do alone we are able to accomplish through the cooperation with other churches.

Please pray for my family as we are away.  And please pray for the meetings I am to attend.  God has blessed us as a denomination and as a church because of our faithfulness to Him in doing missions, educating, and ministering.  I am thankful for all He has done.  I am thankful to be a Southern Baptist.

I look forward to seeing you upon my return.

PATRIOTIC CELEBRATION

Our second Annual Patriotic Celebration will be held in the Decatur County Coliseum on Sunday, June 27 at 6:00 P.M. Last years= celebration was a wonderful success as hundreds of citizens from southwest Georgia and north Florida gathered to honor America and its Godly heritage. A combined choir of local singers will join forces to share the musical AStars and Stripes Forever@. A procession of flags, tribute to veterans and prayer for our country will be featured. A community band of over 50 members will play stirring marches and American music. We will not have services at First Baptist Church that night, enabling each of you to attend. Mark your calendar now and begin inviting your friends and neighbors to this unique event.

FIREPROOF

A special word of thanks to each of you who attended the Sunday evening worship time which featured the movie Fireproof. Many of us have already seen the movie, but it was still an inspiration to help make marriages better. My apologies for not having enough pizza on hand. I=ll be sure to get enough next time! Many of us have not seen Sherwood Baptist Church=s first movie AFlywheel@, so there are plans to show it later in the summer.

YOUTH LED WORSHIP SUNDAY NIGHT

Our teens have traditionally led us in worship on the last Sunday night of the month. Because of the Patriotic Celebration on the 27th and evening services cancelled on June 20 (Fathers Day), our youth will be leading us this Sunday evening. Your presence is a great encouragement.

2010 VBS

JUNE 21-25

Ages P-K  4 thru 6th Grade

 8:30 a.m. till 12:00 noon

Vacation Bible School is just around the corner and we would like to have everyone involved in this ministry. You might say AI can=t teach or help in this ministry because...?@ Well, there is something for everyone. You might not be able to come and help during this time but you can begin to pray for the teachers, workers, and children.

You can also help in providing juice boxes for the children. We generally run through about 500 and 700 juice boxes during this week. And if you can=t get to the store you could give a monetary gift toward the purchase of the drinks and other items needed during the week. Come and get involved in one of the most exciting times during the year where the work of God is so wonderfully displayed.

MissionLab Resource Training

If you are going to MissionLab, then you need to be at a meeting this Sunday at 4:30.  At this meeting, we will look at what we are doing, get our assignments so that we can be prepared in two weeks to leave and accomplish great things for Christ.  Please plan to be at this meeting if you are going to Mlab so that we can work toward making this a great experience for ourselves and the people we come in contact with.

                        Wednesday Night

On June 16,  the youth will have the opportunity to serve their church and to help in the ministry of VBS.  We will be handing out flyers and door hangers to promote VBS to make sure that this is the biggest Bible School we have ever had.  More people equals more opportunity to share Christ with an individual.

                             AtlantaFest

Remember that AtlantaFest is next week and the cost is $75.  We will be staying in the Holiday Inn Express and spending our days enjoying concerts and Stone Mountain Park.
