July 15, 2009

Weddings are an important part of the ministry of the church and the work of the Pastor.  A Christian wedding is a celebration of the love of Christ as evidenced in the lives of two believers.  Christian weddings reflect and honor Christ.  It has been my joy to conduct many such weddings in my 30 plus years of ministry.

Over this same period of time I have been in only one wedding that I did not officiate, my own.  Next weekend, however, I will have the privilege of traveling to East Tennessee to be a groomsmen in the wedding of a young man that I have seen grow in the Lord and become a fine minister himself.  I am excited and honored to be a participant.  Pray for my family as we travel to Rogersville, TN. for this wedding.

The Rev. Earl Barron will be preaching for me next Sunday in both services.  I am so appreciative of a staff that is willing to fill the gap when necessary.  We are so blessed to have the staff that we have.  God is Good!

I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Traveling to the Gulf coast last weekend for a wedding took us by a small church building. The small sign over its door read AThe Church of Christ Meets Here@. This reminded me of the Biblical principal that no matter where Christians meet to study, worship and pray, we are the Church. Let this poem inspire you as it has me.

Christ Has No Hands But Ours

Christ has no hands but our hands, to do His work today,

He  has no feet but our feet to lead men in His way.

He has no tongue but  our tongue to tell men how He died,

He has no help but our help to  bring them to His side.

We are the only Bible, the careless world will read,

We are  the sinners' gospel, we are the scoffers' creed.

We are the Lord's last  message, given in deed and word,

What if the type is crooked, what if  the print is blurred?

What if our hands are busy, with other work than  His,

What if our feet are walking, where sin's allurement  is?

What if our tongues are speaking, of things His lips would  spurn,

How can we hope to help Him, and hasten His return?

                          Sunday School

We will be moving up on August 9th to our new classes for Sunday School.  This year in the youth department things will look different.  Because we will not have the 6th graders, we will have 7th-8th, 9th-10th, and 11th-12th grade classes for Sunday School.  There will be more to come on this in the next couple of weeks.

               Wednesday Night Schedule

We will start back our regular Wednesday night schedule on August 12th.  This means that we will again be needing small group leaders for the middle school ministry.  If you would like to be a part of this again or would like to know more about it for the first time, please contact me before August 12th.

                           Next Chapter

We have a couple more weeks of the Next Chapter at the Old Library.  We have been running around 20 all summer, but lets close out with a bang.  This Sunday at 8 p.m. invite a friend.
