You should have received a list of the men of the church for your prayerful consideration concerning the ministry of
Deacon. Our church policy allows for each member of the church to nominate up to ten men for the position of Deacon. These nominations are made by ballot during the month of May. A screening committee reviews the nominations and contacts each individual that meets the qualifications of a Deacon. The church receives the list of those qualified and willing to serve. Then on the first Sunday in August the Deacon election is held.
Deacons at First Baptist Church are ministers. They care for the families of the church and assist in the ministries of the church. They are a sounding board for both staff and congregation.
I am privileged and have been privileged to serve with some great men in this congregation. I know that God will raise up His men to continue to serve. Please be in prayer now for our Deacons and for those who will serve.
I want to thank all of our youth that participated in Sunday evenings service. WOW! You blessed my heart and the heart of this whole congregation. The music, interpretive movement, and your presence were showing forth your willingness to learn and to serve. THANK YOU!!!
We are blessed with much talent in this church. Some talented folks are being greatly used of the Lord. Others of you need to be used of the Lord. I think there is place of service and worship for each of us. I look forward to seeing you in your place this Sunday.

SHOCKWAVE & INTERPRETIVE MOVEMENT
Last Sunday we were skillfully led closer to the Lord by a great group of teens. Our Youth Choir- SHOCKWAVE- praise team, MARTUS, and interpretive movement group did an awesome job. These are the best teens that I have ever known! We love you! Thanks for using your talents for God.
FELLOWSHIP CLUB
The May Fellowship Club meeting will be our annual >Picnic in the Park=. When Happiness Hurts
The following was a devotional I had this week that spoke volumes to me as a parent and soon to be grandparent. I hope and pray the words you are about to read will bring great encouragement to you as a parent.
When it comes to raising good kids, the goal shouldn't be happiness. Richard Weissbourd, a faculty member at the Harvard School of Education, says character comes from making sacrifices, facing challenges, and dealing with adversity‑‑ideas rooted in the Bible.
Serving others can give our kids a sense of happiness that doesn't fade. Even a little pain or discipline can ultimately lead to happiness. Job 5:17 says: "See how happy the man is God corrects; so do not reject the discipline of the Almighty."
Just as we shouldn't reject God's discipline, we shouldn't hold back in disciplining our children or allowing them to feel a little pain. Momentary sadness caused by correction or hardship can help our kids live more God‑honoring lives. We should teach our kids to do the right thing, not because it makes them happy, but because it's right. That may be countercultural, but it's God's way.
The bottom line is God calls us to focus on our kid's character so they'll experience the right kind of happiness.
Stand Firm: God's Challenge for Today's Man
Remember that no one said that raising children was going to be easy. They are a gift from God and you can=t send them back.
