August 26, 2009

I feel that too often individuals view this article as just another announcement board and quite frankly, I do too.  But, then I was reminded by one of our members that what I write here is not an announcement only, but also a ministry opportunity.  With that connotation in mind, let me mention some ministry opportunities that are approaching.

Sunday, September 13, will be our High Attendance day in Sunday School. Our Tail Gate Party will follow the 11 AM service and we will also be collecting our pledge cards and a special offering for retirement of the debt on the renovation project.  WHEW! What a day!

Wednesday, September 16, will be an exciting time in our Prayer Meeting hour.  The Ad Hoc committee and the Long Range Planning Committee will present a 5 year plan for our church along with drawings and proposals.  This service will be to view and discuss the plan. Then we will vote on the recommendation at the regular fall business meeting, Sept. 30.  Everyone is encouraged to meet in the Sanctuary for this presentation.  I can=t wait.

And this Sunday will be another great day in the House of the Lord as we worship and praise Him together.  I will look forward to seeing you then.

Paul

Dr. Jerry W. Light, Sr., a pastor in Georgia related this experience to me at a funeral this week:

He had the joy of performing the marriage ceremony of a couple who were natives of the country of India. At the reception, Dr. Light was seated at a table with an older gentleman who was blind. This gentleman had been a Christian pastor all of his adult life. When questioned whether he was blind since birth or became later in life, the old pastor replied that as a teenager, he had accepted Christ as his Savior. This was forbidden in the Hindu culture and was punishable by death or physical maiming. The pastor=s father instructed his brother hold him down while he took his vision away.

Dr. Light asked the blind pastor if he regretted losing his sight those many years ago, to which the pastor replied; AI would lose my sight again, to serve my Jesus.@

What a powerful example of sacrifice!

We are so blessed and spoiled at times. What are we willing to sacrifice for Christ?

SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY

Our new Senior Adult Ministry Team met this week to complete our plans for the 2009-2010 year. Barbara and Harold Fleshman are the leaders of our team. Letters will soon be going out to each senior in our fellowship.  We are looking for some input and assistance from each Sunday School class. Teachers, please read my note in your Sunday School Announcements this week.

Last week was an awesome begining to our Awana Ministry. We had 73 children and adults in attendance. This is just one of the many areas of ministry we have for our children. If you are interested in volunteering some time to listen to children say their verses or just help in other ways, please feel free to contact Paul or Jenice Bennet.

The other day I came across something I would like to share with you this week. It is taken from a New York Times article published in February 14, 1871. Because of the length of the article I will only share a portion.

Characteristics of a Successful Teacher-Importance of the Work.

1. Must be Self-Sacrifice

2. Must be faithful, punctual and regular in his        attendance and in his duties of the class.

3. Present the truth with distinctness and           simplicity.

4. Have faith in the one you serve.

5. The teacher should not aim at great things,           and be discouraged when he fails to see his          hopes realized. He many never live to see            them.

At the close of the letter the speaker enforced the importance of personal effort and simplicity in teaching, combined with faith in God, for the faithfulness of the seed sown in the erring hearts.

We are signing up for Youth Evangelism Conference Dec. 28‑30. It will be a wonderful time with bands like Leeland, Todd Agnew, and the David Crowder Band. The Skit Guys will be there also. The cost is $100 and covers the conference and the hotel. Please sign‑up quickly so that we can get the best hotel available.

Kickoff Sunday

Remember that Sunday Sept. 13th is the Game Day Sunday School Kickoff. It is high attendance and we want to make sure that the youth have a good showing. Please invite your friends to Sunday School that morning, but remember it is for those students that don't already attend a church.

We are going to try and start a Middle School prayer breakfast in the next couple of weeks. I will give more details on Sundays and Wednesdays.
