The Builder
April 22, 2009

Our church constitution states:
ADuring the latter part of April of each year, there shall be published by mail to all members fo the church, the names of men eligible for the office of deacon. During the entire month of May of each year, each member of this church shall have an opportunity to anonymously offer in writing ten nominees for the office of deacon...@
It is the time of the year that we begin to take a prayerful look at the election of deacons. I want to stress the word prayerful.
The calling out of a man to serve as a deacon should not be a popularity contest nor a means to foster any particular agenda. The calling out of a man to be a deacon is in keeping with the very first actions of the early church. Seven men were called out to serve because they had gained the confidence and reputation within the church as men full of wisdom and the Holy Spirit. Prayerfully consider men who fulfill the qualifications of the scripture and our congregation.
I will be preaching this Sunday morning May 3 about the role of the deacon. I hope all of our deacons will be present. I also hope that each of you will be present that you might be better led of the Spirit in your decisions.
I look forward to seeing you Sunday.
Paul

MAKING HISTORY
SHOCKWAVE: our youth choir presented this great musical last Sunday evening. As expected, the sanctuary was full and we were all truly blessed. We have a very talented group of teens who love the Lord and want to serve Him. I am grateful to each person who contributed time and effort to lead us in this musical. Special thanks to April Aldridge and Ginger Jones for loving our teens and faithfully leading them each week. DVD=s of the service may be ordered through the church office. Be reminded how Jesus is always near and wants to have a moment-by-moment, daily relationship with you.
FELLOWSHIP CLUB
The May Fellowship Club meeting will be our annual >Picnic in the Park=. This is the special event where we meet at the river, enjoy our covered dish and fried chicken lunch and see the sights by pontoon boat. Bring a friend and join us at noon, Monday, May 4 as we conclude our great year of activities in the Fellowship Club.

Sunday School Teachers
Two weeks ago we had our first monthly teacher meeting and twenty-five teachers and workers attended the meeting. It was a great meeting! We are all getting on the same track and heading in the same direction. Thank you to each of you who believe that we can make a difference and the difference will be seen through our Sunday School. Thank you for being a part of our monthly meetings.
For those of you who were not able to attend, I encourage each of you to please make your plans to participate in the next meeting which will be on the third Wednesday night in May. We will meet during prayer meeting time (7:00 till 7:45 p.m).
Junior Parents
If your child is a Junior in high school then we need to meet about the Senior Breakfast. The Junior parents always put this event on for the Seniors. The breakfast is May 24th so we need to meet Wed. May 6th in the Baraca Sunday School class at 6:20.
College Grads
We as a church would also like to recognize the college graduates on May 24th. If you have recently graduated or know somebody who has, please contact Al with that information.
Mid Powell Memorial Scholarship
We are beginning a memorial scholarship in memory of Mid Powell this year. It will be given to one Senior each year. If you are interested in this scholarship, please see Al ASAP about getting an application. The application will be due by May 10th.
SHOCKWAVE
Special thanks to April and Ginger for putting a great musical together, but also for starting something that has really been a blessing to the youth ministry. My hope is to see this continue to grow.
In Christ,
Al
